Satellite observations can complement vehicle and roadside sensors by adding context across a wider area, historical change and environmental data.
Earth observation data is not a substitute for onboard perception. Revisit frequency, cloud cover, processing time and spatial resolution mean many products are better suited to route planning, infrastructure monitoring and map maintenance than immediate collision avoidance.
An integration should therefore state which decision the data supports, how recent the observation must be and what happens when the required source is unavailable. Source, capture time and processing version should remain available to the receiving system.
